Afflican is a clever anagram to symbolize that ‘I Can Affect Lives.’ It is in the mission of ​afflican to provide the opportunity for any young person to contribute, with their expertise ​and curiosity, to bettering the lives of others. Afflican gathers ‘CO-Ts’ otherwise known as ​‘CO’ task-force groups, filled with experienced, ready and curious young people looking ​to contribute to development projects in a meaningful way, with development partners ​seeking crucial, and real, assistance. A mutual exchange.

What We Do

Our mission is to help young people realize their potentials and ​empower development agents in recognizing their strengths, to ​jointly deliver positive change. Through collaboration and ​innovation, we amplify youth voices and harness technology to ​address pressing global challenges, together.

In alignment with SDG Goals 8, 9, 16 and 17, we envision a world ​where young people are active leaders and change-makers, ​consulted and empowered to shape their futures. Through ​meaningful participation in real work, we aim to create a future ​where all these voices are heard, respected and supported.

Afflican partners with, and propositions to, development, social ​innovation and sustainability projects through ‘CO-T’ groups, ​these are task-force groups of competent young professionals, ​that join other development practitioners in running key ​programmes/projects alongside them. Our 3 ‘CO’s make up the ​core of our work: we create in partnership, we coalesce around a ​central goal in union and we collaborate. We use this ​philosophical belief:

Afflican (co.) started back in 2017 with growing frustration ​over the lack of competent young professionals in the ​development, social innovation and sustainability spaces. ​Half of the world’s population is under 30. Despite the UN ​placing the SDG’s at the forefront of young people’s minds ​— those that stand to be most impacted in the future — we ​remain the least consulted and involved.

This is inherently problematic given that young people not ​only understand the pressing needs of today, but have ​competencies and experiences to offer, are more efficient, ​and when mobilized, can power transformation.
